31/5/00 GOULD ADVISES
Celtic goalkeeper Jonathan Gould will not be holding his breath over the appointment of Martin O'Neill or anyone else as head coach. The Scotland international has seen managers come and go during his relatively short Parkhead career and says seeing will be believing after the disappointment of recent seasons. But Gould insists a new appointment is desperately needed to at least stop the gulf between Celtic and Old Firm rivals Rangers widening even further.
30/5/00 CELTIC LURE TOO HARD TO RESIST
Martin O'Neill today finally agreed to become the new manager of Celtic in succession to John Barnes. O'Neill has ended his four-and-a-half year association with Leicester to take charge of the Bhoys. The former Northern Ireland skipper has stayed loyal to the Foxes in the past when a target for Everton and Leeds.
30/5/00 STEFAN FANCIES MOVE
After Martin O'Neill's arrival at Celtic, fans should brace themselves for a transfer rumour circus in the coming weeks. As well as being linked with a fart of Leicester players - Matt Elliott and Neil Lennon in particular - today sees the Daily Record come up with the name of Stefan Selakovic. The £2m-rated Swedish striker, who plays for part-timers Halmstad, has already been named as a target, according to the Scottish tabloid.
29/5/00 O'NEILL FUTURE IN BALANCE
Leicester City boss Martin O'Neill's future is still in the balance despite reports claiming that he has already agreed to become the new Celtic manager. Sources close to the Foxes chief today insisted that O'Neill has yet to make up his mind whether to take on one of the biggest challenges in British football - to help the Bhoys end Rangers dominance of Scotland. O'Neill held talks yesterday with Leicester chairman John Elsom and his fellow directors who are desperate to hold onto the services of the former Norwich manager.
28/5/00 BHOYS OPEN TALKS WITH O'NEILL
Celtic have opened negotiations with Leicester boss Martin O'Neill who they want as their new manager. O'Neill has staged initial talks with the Bhoys who see the former Northern Ireland international as the man to lead them out of the shadows of Glasgow Rangers. But sources close to Filbert Street were tonight stressing that contract talks were at a very early stage.
26/5/00 LARSSON PICKED FOR EURO 2000
Henrik Larsson has been drafted into the Swedish squad for the European Championships this summer. The Celtic star played just 25 minutes of Celtic's final game of the season on Sunday - his first since breaking his leg last October. But Swedish joint managers Tommy Soderberg and Lars Lagerback believe Larsson is worth of a gamble and have included him in the squad for the tournament in Belgium and Holland.
25/5/00 O'NEILL THE RIGHT MAN?
Celtic announcing their latest manager has become virtually an annual fixture on the football calendar and this time, much like last time and the time before that, they will be convinced they have finally got it right. If Martin O'Neill chooses to leave Leicester and become the new Parkhead head coach it deserves to be celebrated by the Celtic faithful as, on the face of it, it appears a genuine coup. He is, without question, a big name manager as opposed to last summer's arrival John Barnes who was sadly just a big name.
24/5/00 O'NEILL INTERESTED IN CELTIC JOB
Leicester boss Martin O'Neill has admitted his interest in the vacant manager's job at Celtic - but insisted he has not been approached by the Glasgow giants. Celtic are expected to step up their approach to try to lure O'Neill in the next 24 hours. O'Neill said: ''Anyone would have to be interested in a club like them.
23/5/00 HIDDINK DEAL DEAD
The Daily Record is claiming today that the proposed deal to bring Dutchman Gus Hiddink to Celtic as boss is dead. They now say that Martin O'Neill is the club's favourite to take over before the start of next season. They quote Hiddink's advisor Rob Jansen as saying: "As far as I can judge he will not be the next coach at Celtic.
22/5/00 LARSSON FOR EURO 2000?
Celtic striker Henrik Larsson admits that he is facing an anxious couple of days before discovering if he will play at Euro 2000. The Swedish international is determined to prove his fitness despite having just 20 minutes competitive action under his belt in the last seven months. Larsson returned to first-team action in the 2-0 defeat of Dundee United yesterday and to a tumultuous reception from the Parkhead crowd who have been denied his talent for the majority of the season.
21/5/00 LARSSON RETURN
Henrik Larsson returned to the Celtic fold as Kenny Dalglish offered a bright insight into the club's future against Dundee United. The Swedish international had begged his boss to give him a run-out in the final game of the season to prove his fitness to his international bosses ahead of Euro 2000. Larsson played just 25 minutes but showed no visible signs of after-effects following his recovery from a broken leg.
20/5/00 BHOYS SHOULD HAVE DONE BETTER
Kenny Dalglish will manage Celtic for the last time against Dundee United at Parkhead tomorrow - but the only emotion on display will be an acute sense of hurt. The Director of Football Operations, reluctantly made head coach after John Barnes was dismissed against his wishes in February, has presided over one of the low points in Celtic's recent history. The club are currently a record 24 points behind title winners and Glasgow rivals Rangers in the league and were dumped out of the Scottish Cup by lowly Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
19/5/00 LARSSON PUSHING FOR RUN-OUT
Henrik Larsson has asked to make a dramatic return from injury in Celtic's last home game of the season against Dundee United at  Parkhead to prove his fitness for Euro 2000. The Swedish international striker has been sidelined with a broken  leg sustained for Celtic in UEFA Cup action against Lyon in October  and looked to have been ruled out for the remainder of the campaign. Now, however, he has made a request to interim manager Kenny Dalglish  that he be included on the Celtic bench with a view to a first-team  return in the closing stages of Sunday's Scottish Premier League  fixture.
18/5/00 STAND UP TO OLD FIRM DOMINANCE
Sir Alex Ferguson has urged Premier League clubs not to surrender in the fight against the Old Firm dominance. The Manchester United manager - who cracked the Celtic and Rangers monopoly when he took Aberdeen to domestic and European glory in the early 1980s - admits that smaller clubs do lack the resources available at Ibrox and Parkhead.  But Ferguson insists that less financially secure teams can make an impact if they draw on their reserves of pride next season.
17/5/00 LIVERPOOL 4 CELTIC 1
Robbie Fowler tonight played his first full 90 minutes since September, missed a hatful of chances but went a long way to proving his fitness for England duty. England coach Kevin Keegan, who had journeyed to Yorkshire on Sunday in the vain hope of seeing Fowler in action at Bradford, decided to give this friendly a miss. But his decision to name Fowler in his 28 for England's next three games at least looked vindicated by the striker's determined display.
16/5/00 AGENT SLAMSVIDUKA SPECULATION
Mark Viduka's agent Bernie Mandic today described the constant speculation about the player's possible next move as ''ludicrous'' - but did admit he will be seeking talks with Celtic about the striker's future. Mandic was keen to stress today that despite links with Fiorentina, Leeds and Celta Vigo he has not been in contact with another club and if he did so it would only be at Celtic's instruction. But Mandic did indicate he intends to meet with Celtic officials this summer when he may look to renegotiate Australian international Viduka's current playing deal, which runs until 2002.
14/5/00 LUBO DID NOT DESERVE RED CARD
Celtic's interim manager Kenny Dalglish criticised referee Willie Young's decision to dismiss Lubomir Moravcik at half time during the goalless draw with St Johnstone. The midfielder received his marching orders after an altercation with a fan as he left the pitch at the break, but Dalglish insisted that even the Tayside constabulary believe Moravcik should have received a yellow card. ''Lubo was coming off and someone from the crowd used foul and abusive language to him and he replied in the same language,'' said Dalglish.
13/5/00 ST JOHNSTONE 0 CELTIC 0
Lubomir Moravcik and Tommy Johnson added further woe to Celtic's  dismal season when they were dismissed during today's goalless draw  at St Johnstone. Midfielder Moravcik did not return for the second half having been  sent off by referee Willie Young after an altercation in the tunnel -  believed to be with a fan - leaving Celtic down to 10 men at the start  of the period. And just seven minutes after the interval striker Johnson also  received his marching orders for a late challenge on Keith O'Halloran, his second bookable offence.
12/5/00 CELTIC APPOINT NEW BOSS SOON
Celtic chief executive Allan MacDonald today broke his silence on the Parkhead club's search for a new coach and admitted it will be ''weeks rather than days'' before anybody is unveiled. MacDonald refused to take questions on any individual candidates, including the current favourite for the post Guus Hiddink, but played down suggestions there had been any delay in announcing the new man.  He said: ''We are now tightening the net and are very satisfied with the quality of the shortlisted candidates.
11/5/00 CELTIC UP FOR TYSON FIGHT
Celtic and the Scottish Football Association are set to slug it out  for the right to stage Mike Tyson's next fight. The controversial American, who defeated Julius Francis in his first  visit to Britain at Manchester earlier this year, is set to fight Lou  Savarese next month. Both Parkhead and Hampden Park will vie for the right to stage the  fight after other stadiums such as Ibrox, Wembley, Upton Park and   ardiff's Millennium Stadium were forced to withdraw.
9/5/00 STUBBS TO LEAVE CELTIC IN SUMMER
Celtic defender Alan Stubbs is set to move back to England over the summer. Stubbs turned out at Bolton's Reebok Stadium in a testimonial game for John McGinlay, and told reporters that he believes Celtic are aiming to sell him during the close season. And that could open the door for the likes of Everton to capture the player Celtic paid £3-5m for four years ago.
8/5/00 KELLS HANDED HAMPDEN ROLE
The Scottish Football Association have appointed David Kells as director of the national stadium, Hampden Park. Kells has been the commercial director at Celtic since 1995 and will start his new role on July 1. David Taylor, chief executive of the SFA, said: ''David's wealth of experience will be a great asset to the company.
7/5/00 DALGLISH PRAISES BHOYS
Celtic's interim manager Kenny Dalglish, who offered no update on progress to recruit Guus Hiddink as the next head coach, shared the plaudits around after a convincing 5-1 victory over Aberdeen. The Parkhead director of football operations had warned his players beforehand that their reputations were on the line and was satisfied with their response. He said: ''There are a few of our lads who improved their prospects  with that performance.
6/5/00 CELTIC 5 ABERDEEN 1
In an uneven and often miserable season the one constant for Celtic has been reserving their best form for Aberdeen and today was no different at Parkhead. Tommy Johnson led the way for the home side with a hat-trick as after  a series of shoddy displays in the past month they finally put on an  exhibition for their beleaguered support. Certainly the Aberdeen defence was again to Celtic's liking as with another emphatic win they extended the aggregate scoreline in this season's five meetings with the Dons to a remarkable 25-1.
5/5/00 NO DETAILS YET
Kenny Dalglish insists Celtic are closer to appointing their next  head coach, but the club cannot reveal how much progress has been  made because of the constraints of being a plc. Director of football operations Dalglish was reluctant to expand on  questions about the clear favourite for the job, former Dutch  national coach Guus Hiddink, who was dismissed by Real Betis this  week. Dalglish, in interim charge of first-team affairs, explained his  hands and that of the club are tied by the strict rules and  regulations which  come with being a plc.
4/5/00 BHOYS READY TO PROVE THEIR WORTH
Vidar Riseth admits the Celtic players are already gearing themselves up for the arrival of their next head coach to avoid being among those caught up in a potentially huge summer clearout. Leading contender Guus Hiddink is believed to be in his native Holland today in the wake of his sacking from Spanish club Real Betis ahead of possible further discussions on the Celtic vacancy. The former Dutch national coach could now be unveiled before the end of the season with Celtic reported to be ready to release substantial funds to Hiddink for a major investment in the transfer market.
3/5/00 AGENT - VIDUKA IS GOING NOWHERE
Mark Viduka's agent has poured cold water on claims that the Celtic striker is set to sign for Tottenham. The 24-year-old is reported to bean £8-5m target for Spurs manager George Graham. But Bernie Mandic is adamant that there has been no contact between the north London club, Celtic and the player.
2/5/00 HIDDINK WOULD NEED TIME
Former Real Mallorca and Northern Ireland striker Gerry Armstrong has urged Celtic to give Guus Hiddink time to turn the club around if he takes over at Parkhead. Celtic target Hiddink was sacked by Real Betis last night after a meeting at the home of club president, Manuel Ruiz de Lopera. But Armstrong, who is a regular summariser on the Spanish game for television, believes the Dutchman must be given more time in Glasgow than he was allowed at Betis.
1/5/00 VIDUKA STILL UNCERTAIN OVER FUTURE
Celtic striker Mark Viduka admitted that his future may not lie at Parkhead after picking up the Scottish Professional Footballers Association's player of the year award last night. Speculation has been mounting for some weeks over Viduka's plans, with one bookmaker quoting odds on him becoming the highest scorer in the English Premiership next season. After receiving his prize at a dinner in Glasgow, the 24-year-old Australian said: ''I enjoy being at Celtic and the fans have been terrific with me.
