Today Celtic did to Rangers what
we have failed to do for years, beat them thoroughly when it
really mattered! We gave them a the gubbing that they deserved,
"We're going to win the league...blah blah blah!", and
it felt very good.
New Bhoy Chris Sutton opened the
scoring after less that a minute with a tap in from goalside.
The goal was actually offside, but Celtic were due a bit of luck
after so many disallowed goals in other games. It was the
fastest ever Old Firm Premier League goal.
Then before too long it was two
nothing. After a Moravcik cross that evaded the Rangers defence
Stilian Petrov headed home unmarked. The Rangers defensive
weaknesses were showing clearly as Stilian was in metres of
space.
Then came another brilliant goal
to make it THREE - NIL! After some excellent build up play the
ball was passed to outside the box by Moravcik.
Just before half
time Rangers pulled one back in a headed for Reyna which gave
Rangers a lifeline in an otherwise barren game.
After the second half Henrik
scored an outstanding goal. Chris Sutton put it in his path
after a long clearance from Gould. Then Henrik chipped it calmly
over Klos from just inside the box to make it 4-1.
But then Rangers pulled back
another goal. Stephane Mahe gave away a light penalty on Wallace
and Dodds slotted home.
Then Henrik Larsson made a
mockery of the Rangers defence when he glanced a Bobby Petta
free-kick into the net and all but guaranteed that the points
were coming our way.
Then when Barry Ferguson was sent
off in the closing minutes we thought it was a perfect end to a
perfect game. But there was more to come.
The final goal was an historic
moment, it was the most goals Celtic had scored against Rangers
since 1957. But it was the easiest of finishes with the deadbeat
Rangers defence able to do little.
Henrik Larsson was the official
man of the match, but if I had been choosing there would have
been 14 bottles of champagne being presented, need I say more? |
