Celtic extended their lead at the
summit of the SPL with a good win over newly promoted St Mirren.
Didier Agathe made his competitive debut, and it was very
convincing.
Celtic pounded on the pressure
for the first half hour. With Agathe and Moravcik pounding the
pressure it seemed only a matter of time before St Mirren
cracked under the pressure. New bhoy Agathe was outpacing his
marker time after time.
It was beginning to look like
other weeks, we made chance after chance but couldn't score. But
it paid off in the 34th minute when Chris Sutton headed home
after an inch perfect Moravcik corner.
Later in the first half Celtic
missed even more chances, but were coasting against the woeful
St Mirren display. Half time came and there was still on goal in
it. However, when the scores around the country were confirmed
everything seemed all right again, and the hardest thing was to
work out how many points we were soon to be ahead of Rangers.
Celtic made even more chances in
the second half but didn't convert. But no one really minded.
The second goal came in the 84th minute, with a 20 yard free
kick hammer. Sliding into Scrimgours far post, and more than
making amends for earlier goallessness.
There were a lot of good things
to take from the performance. However Celtic are missing a lot
of very good chances in the box. Against better opposition our
defence would be challenged more, and this lack of goals may
become important.
Generally, however, the game was
good. Man of the match Didier Agathe looked very good and made
chance after chance. In the second half he was dispossessed for
the first time, and throughout the ball seemed glued to his toe.
