Celtic moved up another place to
the top of the league. Celtic set the pace throughout the game
and well deservedly scored three goals without reply. Taking
O'Neill competitive winning tally to 9 out of 9.
Hibernian had only one good
chance out of the whole game and seemed to have little to no
attacking prowess whatsoever.
The game started quietly, with
Celtic having few clear cut chances before the goal. The only
notable chances were from Jackie McNamara crosses. In this game
crosses from the right were causing serious problems for Hibs
nothing came of them until after the penalty.
Celtic's opening goal was a
Henrik Larsson penalty. It came about from a Boyd long ball onto
which Alan Thompson was running, he was subsequently bundled by
the keeper, and Rowbotham pointed to the spot immediately.
Larsson slotted in away at the
right hand side and from then on Celtic were in full flow. The
second goal came from a Lubo Moravcik cross, which Larsson
drilled into the top corner, making it 2-0 and taking Hibs total
goal losses this season from two to three!
Just after the start of the
second half new-bhoy Alan Thompson gave us a taste of his
ferocious left foot in an unstoppable shot from outside the box,
narrowly missing. And then a soon after he did the same again.
Later in the second half Celtic
started playing even better football in which they made lots of
chances but converted none. The final goal came from a Paul
Lambert lay off after a Larsson through ball, which Burchill
slotted neatly in to blast any ideas of a last minute comeback.
Celtic are no longer trailing
behind in the league and wih Rangers looking so shabby at the
back the future looks rosy! |
